The Cyber on Saturday Academy exposes AGORA participants to programming concepts and security through the use of modern APIs and mobile applications. This online resource provides students with the ability to preview upcoming programs and activities and to review concepts and skills. Additionally, students can communicate both synchronously and asynchronously with Instructors, Mentors, and classmates to maintain engagement between Saturday Sessions.
This online resource center will provide a collaborative location for STEM teachers affiliated with the AGORA project. As part of AGORA, PD and course offerings will be offered which are aligned with the NC Standard Course of Study (NCSCOS), specifically the Common Core and Essential Standards, grades 9-12 mathematics, science and technology strands, as well as 21st century teaching and learning strategies. STEM professionals will provide computer, technology, science- and mathematics-related mentoring, content and resources to teachers and undergraduates who serve in the Saturday and summer programs.
Teacher PD and virtual learning activities will focus on the following: (1) inspiring students’ interest in STEM and STEM-related majors and careers, (2) engaging students in rigorous and challenging hands-on activities with Naval and other STEM scientists who serve as e-mentors and role models, and (3) educating students about the preparation and requirements for future STEM employment and success.
